I built an open-source 3D video editor with Al-assisted creation. Here's how it works!
I've been building JianJi, an open-source 3D video editor designed for creating product showcases and promotional videos, with AI-assisted creation features.

# How it works
The project is built with React 19, TypeScript, Three.js, React Three Fiber, Zustand, and Electron.
There are three interesting parts I'd like to share:
**1. Custom Animation System**
Each 3D object has its own timeline, supporting keyframes for position, rotation, scale, visibility, and custom speed curves. The editor evaluates animation states based on the current playback time and updates the 3D scene.
**2. AI-Assisted Creation with a Custom DSL**
Instead of letting AI generate Three.js code directly, I designed a human-readable project DSL. AI translates natural-language requests into structured project descriptions, which are parsed and applied by the editor.
This keeps the AI layer independent from the rendering engine and makes generated projects easier to inspect and modify.
**3. Video Export Pipeline**
Video export uses WebCodecs, Web Workers, and mp4-muxer. It renders the scene frame by frame, distributes encoding tasks across multiple workers, and packages the results into MP4.
# My AI Coding Experience
The project initially started with DeepSeek Harness + DeepSeek V4. Honestly, the experience was quite frustrating😥. A single conversation could take tens of minutes or even nearly two hours, and the results weren't always satisfactory.
Later, I switched to Codex + GPT-5.6 (Sol) with medium reasoning effort. It helped me clean up, refactor, and fix much of the earlier generated code.
Surprisingly, GPT also cost me significantly less overall than DeepSeek🤩, mainly because it required fewer iterations and much less repeated work.
This taught me that a cheaper model doesn't necessarily mean a cheaper development process. Efficiency and the ability to deliver reliable results matter just as much.
# Feedback Welcome!
JianJi is still under active development, so bugs and shortcomings are inevitable.
I'd especially appreciate feedback on the architecture, animation system, AI integration, or anything that could be improved.
I'll add valid feedback and contributions to the acknowledgment section of the README.
Thanks for checking it out!

darkmatter2048/WindowsCleaner
