  1. Top Trending GitHub Repo: Crawl4AI — The Open-Source LLM Scraper That Beats Firecrawl (And How to Automate It for ) If you are building AI agents, RAG pipelines, or autonomous research swarms in 2026, you already know the painful truth: feeding raw HTML into an LLM is a money bonfire. Standard web scraping with BeautifulSoup or Selenium dumps megabytes of CSS, boilerplate navigation menus, and minified JavaScript into your context window. A single 10-page research run can blow through 150,000 tokens before your agent even writes its first sentence. That explains why Crawl4AI has exploded on GitHub with over 35,000+ stars, becoming one of the most starred open-source AI tooling repositories of the year. Here is a practical breakdown of what makes Crawl4AI special, its real benchmarks, and how our 1-person studio hooked it into an automated 24/7 syndication pipeline for less than $1/month. --- 1. What is Crawl4AI? GitHub Repository: unclecode/crawl4ai License: Apache 2.0 (100% Free & Open Source) Crawl4AI is an open-source, asynchronous web crawler and data extractor engineered specifically to bridge the gap between dynamic modern web pages and LLMs. Unlike traditional headless scrapers, Crawl4AI does not just dump text. It outputs clean, structured Markdown with: - Intelligent heuristic noise removal (stripping ads, cookie banners, navigation sidebars); - Native screenshot and visual element extraction; - Multi-URL concurrent crawling (6x faster than Playwright out of the box); - Dynamic content handling (supports JavaScript execution, infinite scroll, and authenticated sessions); - Chunking strategies specifically optimized for RAG embeddings. # A minimal Crawl4AI pipeline in 5 lines of Python: import asyncio from crawl4ai import AsyncWebCrawler async def main(): async with AsyncWebCrawler(verbose=True) as crawler: result = await crawler.arun(url="https://news.ycombinator.com") print(result.markdown[:500]) # Pure, noise-free Markdown! if __name__ == "__main__": asyncio.run(main()) --- 2. Why Developers Are Replacing Commercial APIs with Crawl4AI Commercial scraping APIs like Firecrawl or ScraperAPI charge aggressive per-page pricing ($15 to $99+/month for modest request volumes). When your autonomous agents run 50 background research loops per day, commercial API costs scale exponentially. | Feature | Commercial Scraping SaaS | Crawl4AI (Open Source) | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | Cost | $29 – $199 / mo | $0 (Self-hosted / Local) | | Speed | Network rate-limited | Local async concurrency (up to 10x faster) | | Privacy & Auth | Shared IP proxies (frequent bot triggers) | Runs with your authenticated local Chrome profile | | Output Format | JSON / Markdown | Optimized RAG-ready Markdown + Semantic chunks | | Vendor Lock-in | High | Zero (Apache 2.0) | --- 3. How to Hook Crawl4AI into a $1/Month Solopreneur Automation Engine Having clean markdown is only half the battle. How do you turn crawled intelligence into actionable content without manually babysitting the script? Instead of relying on expensive Zapier task tiers ($100+/mo), we wire Crawl4AI into lightweight visual webhook pipelines: [Target Source / News / Repo] │ ▼ [Crawl4AI Local Engine] ──> (Outputs Clean Structured Markdown) │ ▼ [Webhook Dispatcher] │ ▼ [Make.com Automated Scenario] │ ┌──────┴──────┐ ▼ ▼ [gpt-4o-mini] [Syndication & Storage] (JSON format) (Blogger, Dev.to, X Thread) The Cost Breakdown: 1. Scraping: $0 via self-hosted Crawl4AI. 2. Visual Routing: $0 with make.com (using their free tier or the official 10,000 operations perk). 3. Inference: $0.0003 per extraction with gpt-4o-mini using structured JSON format. 4. Total Monthly Overhead: Under $1.00 / month for 24/7 automated monitoring. (Tip for solo builders: You can grab an exclusive 1 Month Free Pro + 10,000 Operations on Make.com to build out your multi-step agent triggers). --- 4. When Should You Build vs. Hire? If you are building simple RAG retrieval, running Crawl4AI locally takes 10 minutes to set up. However, if you need enterprise-grade data infrastructure—such as distributed multi-node proxy rotation, anti-fingerprinting bypasses, or end-to-end multi-agent swarms integrated with CRM and ERP backends—don't spend 3 weeks debugging low-level network drivers alone. You can hire vetted, specialized AI & Python engineers directly on Upwork's Official Certified AI Talent Directory to deliver production-ready agent microservices in 48 hours. --- 5. Summary & Full Architecture Retrospective The transition from "manual prompt engineer" to "autonomous systems architect" is about building deterministic pipelines with open-source foundations. - Star and inspect the official repo: Crawl4AI on GitHub - For our studio's complete 3+1 Multi-Agent industrial architecture teardown and quality assurance gates, read the full retrospective on our blog: 👉 PixelBrain Studio Engineering Retrospective

  2. Your free AI agent keeps getting IP-blocked: route Crawl4AI and browser-use through a free proxy --- title: "Your free AI agent keeps getting IP-blocked: route Crawl4AI and browser-use through a free proxy" published: true description: Agents that browse from one IP get rate-limited fast. Here's working Python code that sends Crawl4AI and browser-use through a free rotating proxy pool, plus an honest list of what a proxy can't fix. tags: ai, python, webscraping, agents --- You built a small agent. It reads pages with Crawl4AI or drives a browser with browser-use, it runs on your laptop or a free-tier VM, and for the first fifty pages it works great. Then the 429s start. Then a site quietly serves you an empty page. Then a cloud IP gets blocked outright. Most of the time that isn't your code. It's the fact that every request your agent makes leaves from the same IP, and agents make a lot of requests, very fast, with no human pauses. Sites rate-limit per IP, and datacenter IPs (Colab, GitHub Actions, any cheap VPS) start out half-blocked anyway. The fix is old and boring: spread the requests over many IPs. This post shows how to do that for free, with code for Crawl4AI and browser-use that I ran against the live pool before posting. > Disclosure: I run SolProxy. The free pool below is ours. The code works with any HTTP proxy that takes a username and password; only the address changes. What a proxy fixes, and what it doesn't Before the code, be clear about what you're buying (even when it costs $0): A rotating proxy helps with: - Per-IP rate limits ("too many requests from this IP"). - IP bans after your agent hammered one site. - Datacenter IP blocks, when the exit is a home connection. - Geo: seeing the page a visitor from another country sees. It does not help with: - Serious bot protection (Cloudflare challenges, DataDome, PerimeterX, Amazon). Those look at the browser fingerprint and behaviour, not just the IP. In our own test, the free pool got through on 0 of 36 tries against protected sites. Free proxies won't change that, and paid ones only sometimes do. - Captchas. - Logins. Never send a password or session cookie through a free proxy. If your agent mostly reads docs, blogs, forums, listings and news, IP rotation is the thing that's missing. If it fights Cloudflare all day, you need more than a proxy. The free pool in one paragraph SolProxy's free list re-tests public proxies every minute with a real HTTPS request and drops any that tamper with TLS. With a free account you also get one gateway address, ws.solproxy.net:8501, that picks a live proxy for each connection, only from the ones that passed at least 9 of their last 10 checks, and retries on another one if it dies. You never handle a list. Limits, so nothing surprises you later: 25 GB per account per month, 2.5 GB per day, 16 connections at a time. The whole free pool also has a monthly budget; if it runs out you get a 503 until the 1st of the month. Setup: register, copy your token from the dashboard, and use it as the proxy password: export SOLPROXY_TOKEN=your_token_here curl -x "http://free:$SOLPROXY_TOKEN@ws.solproxy.net:8501" https://api.ipify.org You should see an IP that isn't yours. 1. Crawl4AI: pages to LLM-ready markdown, through the pool Crawl4AI turns a page into clean markdown your model can read. It takes a proxy in BrowserConfig: pip install crawl4ai crawl4ai-setup # installs the browser # crawl_tool.py import asyncio import os from crawl4ai import AsyncWebCrawler, BrowserConfig, CacheMode, CrawlerRunConfig, ProxyConfig SOLPROXY = ProxyConfig( server="http://ws.solproxy.net:8501", username="free", # flags go here: "free-us", "free-sticky10m-job1" password=os.environ["SOLPROXY_TOKEN"], # your token from the dashboard ) BROWSER = BrowserConfig(headless=True, proxy_config=SOLPROXY) RUN = CrawlerRunConfig(cache_mode=CacheMode.BYPASS, page_timeout=45_000) async def fetch_markdown(url: str, tries: int = 3) -> str: """Fetch a page through the free pool and return LLM-ready markdown.""" last = "no attempt" for _ in range(tries): # A new browser means new connections, so each try leaves from another proxy. async with AsyncWebCrawler(config=BROWSER) as crawler: r = await crawler.arun(url, config=RUN) if r.success and (r.status_code or 200) < 400: return r.markdown.raw_markdown last = f"{r.status_code} {r.error_message or ''}".strip() raise RuntimeError(f"{url}: failed after {tries} tries ({last})") if __name__ == "__main__": md = asyncio.run(fetch_markdown("https://news.ycombinator.com")) print(md[:500]) fetch_markdown is already an agent tool. Give it to whatever framework you use (LangGraph, the OpenAI or Anthropic tool-calling APIs, smolagents, CrewAI) as "fetch this URL and return its text", and every page your agent reads goes out through a different IP. Free proxies die mid-request. That's why the retry loop is there: a failed try is cheap, and the next one leaves from a different proxy. 2. browser-use: a full browsing agent behind the pool browser-use lets an LLM click and type in a real browser. Its Browser takes a proxy too: pip install browser-use # agent.py import asyncio import os from browser_use import Agent, Browser, ChatOpenAI from browser_use.browser.profile import ProxySettings browser = Browser( headless=True, proxy=ProxySettings( server="http://ws.solproxy.net:8501", username="free-sticky10m-agent1", # keep one exit IP for 10 minutes password=os.environ["SOLPROXY_TOKEN"], ), ) agent = Agent( task="Open news.ycombinator.com and list the top 5 story titles with their points.", llm=ChatOpenAI(model="gpt-4.1-mini"), # any LLM browser-use supports browser=browser, ) asyncio.run(agent.run()) Note the username. A browsing agent does several steps on one site, and a site that sees the same visitor jump between IPs mid-session gets suspicious. -sticky10m-agent1 keeps the same proxy for up to 10 minutes (or until it dies); the part after it (agent1) is your own session name, so two agents running side by side each get their own pinned proxy. For one-off page reads (the Crawl4AI case), leave it off and let every connection rotate. 3. Plain Playwright If your agent drives Playwright directly: import asyncio import os from playwright.async_api import async_playwright async def main(): async with async_playwright() as p: browser = await p.chromium.launch(proxy={ "server": "http://ws.solproxy.net:8501", "username": "free", "password": os.environ["SOLPROXY_TOKEN"], }) page = await browser.new_page() await page.goto("https://api.ipify.org") print(await page.inner_text("body")) # the proxy's IP, not yours await browser.close() asyncio.run(main()) One thing you'll see in a lot of proxy tutorials: ignore_https_errors=True. Don't. HTTPS through an HTTP proxy is an encrypted tunnel; the proxy only sees the hostname. That stays true only while certificate checks are on. If something only works with checks off, a proxy in the chain is swapping certificates and can read your traffic. Our pool drops those, but your browser is the last line of defence, so leave it on. Useful flags All flags go in the username, in any order: | Username | What it does | |---|---| | free | New proxy per connection | | free-us, free-de | Prefer that country (falls back to any if none is live) | | free-sticky10m-mysession | Same proxy for up to 10 minutes while it stays up (sticky1m up to sticky1h) | | free-residential | Only IPs whose ISP isn't a known hosting company. Returns 503 instead of falling back | How it did when I ran it I ran the Crawl4AI code and the browser-use proxy setup against the live pool from a home connection before posting (Crawl4AI 0.9.5, browser-use 0.13.14, Playwright 1.64.1). One run, so read it as a sanity check, not a benchmark: - Rotation: four free requests to ipify came out from four different IPs. - Plain sites: Hacker News, Wikipedia, GitHub Trending, quotes.toscrape and books.toscrape all came back as full markdown, in 3 to 6 seconds each. Hacker News failed once with a 503 and worked on the retry, which is exactly why fetch_markdown retries. - Reddit made the browser pass a JavaScript check first, then returned the real page (9 seconds). - Amazon returned a "click to continue shopping" bot page. Crawl4AI still reported it as a success, so don't trust success alone: if the markdown is a few hundred characters, it's probably a block page. Check for text you expect before you hand it to the model. - browser-use: its browser logged in to the pool with the sticky username and loaded pages through it with no extra setup. (The LLM part of the agent doesn't care which proxy is underneath.) One thing about sticky sessions: free proxies die, and when a pinned one does, the gateway quietly moves you to another live one instead of failing. So "sticky" means "the same proxy for as long as it stays up, up to 10 minutes", not a guarantee. When free stops being enough You'll know: you hit the 2.5 GB daily cap, or a target needs a real residential IP that doesn't fall over. The paid pool on the same gateway is $1.00 to $1.20 per GB with no tiers, and the code above doesn't change apart from the username and port. But start free; most agents never need more. If something in the code breaks with a newer Crawl4AI or browser-use version, leave a comment and I'll fix the post.

  3. How to give Claude Code a web scraping tool with Crawl4AI (MCP) Coding agents are great at research until they need to read a real web page. Crawl4AI is an open-source crawler and scraper that turns websites into clean, LLM-ready Markdown, and it ships an MCP server so Claude Code can scrape, extract and search on its own. This guide covers both ways to use it: the hosted MCP server (one command in Claude Code) and the free open-source library you run yourself. Option 1: hosted MCP in Claude Code Get a key Sign up at crawl4ai.com and verify your email. Per the README, the free tier is 1,000 credits every month, 10 requests a minute and 2 at a time, with no card. Paid plans start at $10 a month (120 a minute, 10 at a time). Hosted requests are billed against your key, so keep CRAWL4AI_KEY out of shared scripts. export CRAWL4AI_KEY="your-key-here" Add the MCP server claude mcp add --transport http crawl4ai https://api.crawl4ai.com/mcp \ --header "Authorization: Bearer $CRAWL4AI_KEY" The README links setup for Codex, Cursor and OpenCode too. Use it Start Claude Code and ask for a page in plain language: Use crawl4ai to scrape https://docs.crawl4ai.com and summarize the installation options as a table. The same key gives you /scrape (page to Markdown), /extract (page to JSON, no LLM key of your own needed), /search (web search), /serp (Google's results page as data, in beta) and /answer (a direct answer with sources, experimental). JS-heavy pages and bot walls are handled for you on the hosted side. Quick test without an agent curl -s https://api.crawl4ai.com/scrape \ -H "Authorization: Bearer $CRAWL4AI_KEY" \ -H "Content-Type: application/json" \ -d '{"url": "https://news.ycombinator.com"}' | jq -r .markdown Option 2: run it yourself for free The hosted API is optional. The open-source crawler runs free on your machine. pip install -U crawl4ai crawl4ai-setup # installs and sets up the browser crawl4ai-doctor # checks the installation If the browser setup fails, install Chromium by hand with python -m playwright install --with-deps chromium. import asyncio from crawl4ai import AsyncWebCrawler async def main(): async with AsyncWebCrawler() as crawler: result = await crawler.arun(url="https://news.ycombinator.com") print(result.markdown) asyncio.run(main()) Save result.markdown per page and you have clean input for a RAG index. For tighter output, the "fit Markdown" filters (PruningContentFilterLXML, BM25ContentFilter, LLMContentFilter) strip menus, footers and boilerplate. Or from the command line crwl https://news.ycombinator.com -o markdown crwl https://docs.crawl4ai.com --deep-crawl bfs --max-pages 10 Self-hosted MCP with Docker If you want MCP without the hosted API, run your own server. It needs a token; without one it only answers inside its container. export CRAWL4AI_API_TOKEN="$(openssl rand -hex 32)" docker run -d -p 11235:11235 --name crawl4ai --shm-size=1g \ -e CRAWL4AI_API_TOKEN="$CRAWL4AI_API_TOKEN" \ unclecode/crawl4ai:latest Allow about 10 seconds for it to start, then test: curl -s http://localhost:11235/md \ -H "Authorization: Bearer $CRAWL4AI_API_TOKEN" \ -H "Content-Type: application/json" \ -d '{"url": "https://news.ycombinator.com"}' | jq -r .markdown The server exposes /md, /html, /crawl, /screenshot, /pdf and /execute_js, plus a dashboard at http://localhost:11235/dashboard and a playground at /playground. The README says the self-hosted server also supports MCP for Claude Code and other agents; the exact connection steps are in the self-hosting guide. Which one should you pick? - Library: free, runs in your Python process, your proxies and settings. - Your own Docker server: free apart from hosting, shared by several tools. - Hosted: no browsers to run, bot walls handled, and the only option with /search, /serp and /answer. Whichever you choose, respect each site's terms and robots rules when crawling. Use cases with copy-paste prompts Each page has who it is for, the steps, and a prompt you can paste into your coding agent. Use case: Give Claude Code a web scraping tool over MCP Use case: Turn any web page into clean Markdown for RAG Use case: Scrape a page with one curl call --- Get one email every Monday with the week's hottest AI repos and exactly how to use them: subscribe free at dedupedai.com

  9. Building Resilient LLM Data Pipelines: Rate Limiting and Circuit Breaking with Crawl4AI The Problem: When Your LLM Pipeline Becomes a DDoS Attack Last quarter, our content ingestion pipeline for LLM fine-tuning crashed three times in production. The root cause? Unbounded retry loops in our web scraping layer created accidental DDoS attacks against upstream targets, triggering IP bans that cascaded into a 6-hour data blackout. We were using Crawl4AI to convert documentation sites into LLM-ready markdown for our RAG system. The library itself is solid—clean markdown extraction, JavaScript rendering, and structured output. But we had wrapped it in naive retry logic that amplified transient network blips into infrastructure fires. War Story: The Thundering Herd The incident timeline: 1. T+0m: Upstream CDN hiccup caused 3% request failure rate 2. T+2m: Our scraper retried failed requests immediately, no backoff 3. T+5m: Retry storm overwhelmed both the target and our Redis rate limiter 4. T+12m: Target firewall banned our entire IP block 5. T+6h: Manual intervention to rotate IPs and rebuild scrape queue The fix required three layers of defense: exponential backoff with jitter, distributed rate limiting with atomic Lua scripts, and a circuit breaker to fail fast when targets are genuinely down. Implementation: Resilient Crawl4AI Client Wrapper Here's the production-grade wrapper we built. Copy-paste ready for TypeScript projects: import axios, { AxiosError } from 'axios'; interface RetryConfig { maxRetries: number; baseDelayMs: number; maxDelayMs: number; } class ResilientCrawler { private failureCount = 0; private lastFailureTime = 0; private readonly circuitThreshold = 5; private readonly circuitResetMs = 60000; constructor( private crawl4aiEndpoint: string, private retryConfig: RetryConfig = { maxRetries: 3, baseDelayMs: 1000, maxDelayMs: 32000 } ) {} private calculateBackoff(attempt: number): number { const exponential = Math.min( this.retryConfig.baseDelayMs * Math.pow(2, attempt), this.retryConfig.maxDelayMs ); const jitter = exponential * 0.1 * Math.random(); return exponential + jitter; } private isCircuitOpen(): boolean { if (this.failureCount < this.circuitThreshold) return false; const elapsed = Date.now() - this.lastFailureTime; if (elapsed > this.circuitResetMs) { this.failureCount = 0; return false; } return true; } async scrape(url: string): Promise<string> { if (this.isCircuitOpen()) { throw new Error(`Circuit breaker OPEN: ${this.failureCount} consecutive failures`); } for (let attempt = 0; attempt <= this.retryConfig.maxRetries; attempt++) { try { const response = await axios.post( `${this.crawl4aiEndpoint}/crawl`, { url, markdown: true }, { timeout: 30000 } ); this.failureCount = 0; return response.data.markdown; } catch (error) { const isRetryable = this.isRetryableError(error as AxiosError); if (!isRetryable || attempt === this.retryConfig.maxRetries) { this.failureCount++; this.lastFailureTime = Date.now(); throw error; } const backoffMs = this.calculateBackoff(attempt); await new Promise(resolve => setTimeout(resolve, backoffMs)); } } throw new Error('Retry exhausted'); } private isRetryableError(error: AxiosError): boolean { if (!error.response) return true; const status = error.response.status; return status === 429 || status >= 500; } } Layer 2: Distributed Rate Limiter with Redis For multi-worker deployments, client-side backoff isn't enough. You need atomic rate limiting at the infrastructure layer: -- rate_limit.lua (Redis atomic sliding window) local key = KEYS[1] local limit = tonumber(ARGV[1]) local window = tonumber(ARGV[2]) local now = tonumber(ARGV[3]) redis.call('ZREMRANGEBYSCORE', key, 0, now - window) local current = redis.call('ZCARD', key) if current < limit then redis.call('ZADD', key, now, now) redis.call('EXPIRE', key, window) return 1 else return 0 end # Python middleware using the Lua script import redis import time class RedisRateLimiter: def __init__(self, redis_client: redis.Redis, script_path: str): with open(script_path) as f: self.script = redis_client.register_script(f.read()) def allow(self, key: str, limit: int, window_sec: int) -> bool: now_ms = int(time.time() * 1000) return bool(self.script( keys=[f"ratelimit:{key}"], args=[limit, window_sec * 1000, now_ms] )) Lessons from Production 1. Jitter is non-negotiable: Without randomization, synchronized retries create secondary thundering herds 2. Circuit breakers need memory: Track failure rate across requests, not just individual call stacks 3. Atomic rate limits: Redis INCR is not atomic for sliding windows—use Lua scripts or sorted sets 4. Fail fast on 4xx: Only retry transient errors (5xx, timeouts, network), never client errors Integration with Crawl4AI Cloud If you're using Crawl4AI Cloud instead of self-hosted, wrap the API client with the same resilience patterns. The cloud endpoint handles JavaScript rendering and gives you one-key access, but upstream rate limits and transient failures still require client-side defense. The production deployment serves 2M pages/day for our LLM training pipeline with zero unplanned downtime since implementing these patterns.
