PhotoCraft, an open-source rebuild of Photoshop, went from 16,705 to 62,909 GitHub stars in 8 days. The team behind it, ArtCraft (github.com/storytold), has published 13 "clean-room" rewrites of paid apps from 5 companies in under two weeks. I tracked the 300 most-starred new repos on GitHub in two snapshots, 8 days apart, to measure how fast this is moving and whether it holds up.
