AI Warning for Steam – Increases Visibility of AI Generated Content Disclosures

If only Valve had the balls to add this to their site: seeeeew/aiwarningforsteam
(with some fiddling it can even be installed in the Steam client's embedded Chromium browser FTW)

Thoughts on tackling the AI declaration issue
Based on several posts on the Steam, PCMR, Indiedev, and other subreddits, as well as a discussion in my playtesting discord, I hope to have a reasonable grip on the status of the situation. I've not published any games, I have no horse in this race, other than playing ~50 demos per week, whether next fest is on or not, and playtesting game submissions on stream for feedback.
There are 4 scenarios, based on whether or not people use AI, and whether or not they disclose it. Those who use it and disclose it are not affected for the purpose of this discussion.
There have been instances of devs who have used AI, but NOT disclosed it correctly. I see those all the time, it's pretty obvious when they do. It has reached the point where they feel discriminated against and therefore omit the disclosure. See hereand herefor examples, and herefor a more sane discussion.
That means, that if a game does not have an AI declaration, we can no longer trust that this means that no AI was used. I have even often seen devs making an AI declaration that says "No AI was used". Because that is clearer communication, but of course will then be flagged by automated systems (such as thisextension that will blur games that have an AI declaration).
So, from the perspective of the developer who doesn't use AI, this is a lose-lose scenario:
Don't make a declaration: We can't trust that a missing declaration means no AI was used anymore.
Do make a declaration: Automated systems (and whatever steam does internally) will limit you.
I very often go to the bottom of the game page and look for the AI declaration. Just to get an informed opinion. And I know many people make their download decision dependent on that.
So here's my suggestion for devs who did not use AI:
1. On Steam's internal declaration, check "No", so all automated systems know there's no AI.
2. At the very bottom of your game description, make your own AI declaration that says "No AI was used".
And for everyone else:
Report, Report, Report, when you see a game that's clearly using AI and did NOT declare it.
Why do I care? Because I'm tired of downloading a game and seeing the exact same interface, with the same generated icons, and them not being disclosed.

Try installing this script. You can even install this inside of Steam's browser.

Saw this in another bsky post, but there's an extension for Chrome & Firefox that helps weed out shitty games with AI content descriptors.

It can also be installed into steams embedded browser by using right click + "Open Link in New Tab" and pasting the above URL in.
