  1. Italian Plumber Pong (Mario Tennis) Progress. This project started as a bit of an experiment - as an interested consumer/player of these recomps I have been lurking here for a while and seeing a specific claim, or sentiment that I felt needed to be tested (that making a recomp is so easy anyone can do it by just saying "recomp this rom make no mistakes" and then take their hands off and get a playable project. So I embarked to create my own recomp! Here is my experience so far: Days 1-4 was basically me running codex remote via my phone and answering prompts to approve requests about every 5 to 10 mins for a few days. Progress was incredibly slow as codex was essentially brute force testing hypothesis while using a little N64 Recomp. Somewhere along day 2 or 3 I asked for less approval prompts, clarified the security requirements and it chilled out a little bit still.... progress was incredibly slow - estimated date for first playable tennis match was Christmas time at the rate I was going at. So... at the end of day 4 I asked chatGPT why certain developers could crush a N64 recomp in 48 hours or less, and I gave it a specific example (Destruction Derby 64 recomp) murkantor/Destruction-Decomp-64 GPT inspected the github and determined we were being much too conservative with our project and we restrategized. I didn't want it to be 100% ramming a square peg through a round hole and wanted to maintain well written, sensible code so I asked for an approach that was not so sloppy but much faster than where we were at currently. So last night I went to bed while codex worked with the new strategy and... I Think it was a pretty impactful pivot... ORIGINAL MARIO TENNIS CODE EXECUTED Before last night 23 Session 51 After last night 1,467,951 Session 52 Increase in executed instructions ~63,824× More to come, and you can follow the road map/dev diary on the github I linked!

  2. I wanted to see how "Easy" is it to Decompile a N64 ROM into C, using nothing but AI and 24 hours and almost 100% hands off. When you fear something, study it. Learn why you should fear it. The following is a link to a repo is a 100% Claude Opus 5.5 Medium "Decompile this ROM, upload found functions to GIT. Document the functions, and give them suitable names". 100% slop. Basically 100% hands off while I was asleep and at work. The entire ROM was decompiled in a remote session in around 20 hours. I had it booting into an SDL3 window, fully playable with Raphnet Raw support and with some minor graphics errors in exactly 24. I reviewed no code, I didn't care, that wasn't the goal of this experiment. This was an experiment on how "Powerful" and how easy it is to just throw a ROM at an AI and tell it to do the above. Spoilers; it's very powerful. The git has had no input from me what-so-ever. If you want to see what the above model and effort can spit out, try to figure it out. Good luck,
