🫧 MihawkOS Alpha 8 is out 🫧

MihawkOS Alpha 8 is out. Here's everything new:
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
THE CONTROL OVERLAY
Press L3 + R3 in any game. A frosted-glass panel opens over it, with the game still running behind:
Exit: back to MihawkOS in one press
Statistics: fps, frame time, GPU load and the console's page tables, live in the corner (about 0.2 ms per frame)
Keyboard: MihawkOS's own on-screen keyboard
Mouse: on or off while you play
Controller: switch between Xbox 360, Xbox One and DualSense mid-game
Holds 119.8 fps at 120 Hz with the panel open
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
YOUR CONTROLLER IN MORE GAMES
Until now, only XInput games saw your controller. Games that use DirectInput, raw input, winmm or SDL find it now too.
Ready 25 to 70 ms after a game starts
Games that never saw the controller now play with it
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
STEADIER FRAMES
Games wait for the TV like on a PC: 119.8 fps at 120 Hz, 59.9 fps at 60 Hz
The extra frame limiter that caused camera and input lag is gone
Games running below your TV's resolution reach the screen 3.3x faster
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
TYPING IN REAL TIME
The on-screen keyboard types into the game key by key
⌫ Backspace deletes in the game
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
ONLINE GAMES CONNECT AGAIN
Games and launchers that go online through Windows' WinHTTP had every request refused. They connect now, inside MihawkOS and outside it.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
FAR FEWER FREEZES AND CRASHES
Unity games no longer freeze themselves: our test pauses and resumes a game's threads 300 times in a row and passes every time
No more black screen in games that ask for more memory than any PS5 has, like Spelunky 2 from Steam. No per-game setting needed
Direct3D 12 games get twice the graphics upload memory (2 GiB instead of 1)
Games that time frames with the GPU clock get real readings
Games learn which CPU core each thread runs on
No more freeze when a game's crash reporter starts
Games no longer damage MihawkOS's own memory or collide with the graphics driver's
Games keep their own thread priorities, so audio and input react on time
Games started from a launcher or a Steam shortcut, even on another drive, run inside MihawkOS like the rest
A freeze leaves a snapshot in the log, so your report shows where it stuck
Crash logs name the file, the place, the address and the thread
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
VISUAL C++ ALREADY INSTALLED
Visual C++ 2010, 2012 and 2013 are now recorded next to 2015–2022, so launchers stop asking. A game's own installer still finishes quietly.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
STEAM ON CONSOLES WITH LITTLE ROOM
Steam needs about 2,000 of the console's 8,192 system page tables. On firmware 10.xx–11.xx there's often less room, so MihawkOS now stops Steam at the start and tells you what to do, instead of letting it fail halfway.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
UPDATING
From 7.1, just open MihawkOS: it finds Alpha 8, downloads it, checks its signature and installs it when you restart it. Your setup, your games, Steam and your settings are kept.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
COMING IN 8.1
Steam's browser inside MihawkOS (lighter on the console)
Games get the room Steam was using as soon as they start
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Thank you to every tester who sent logs, screenshots and videos.
Built on Wine, Proton, DXVK, VKD3D-Proton and Mesa.
DRM like Denuvo and anti-cheat like EAC or BattlEye are not supported.

MihawkOS Alpha 7 is out
What's new:
🎮 Memory limits: games run inside MihawkOS itself now, with twice as much room as before. Large games that used to crash or close on their own now have space to run.
📂 File browser: start your Windows games straight from the main menu, without opening the desktop.
📦 Installing: the whole download is a single folder. Copy PPSA99170 to your PS5, open MihawkOS, and it sets up everything else by itself. No USB stick, no separate runtime download.
🔄 Updating: replace the folder with the new one and open MihawkOS. Your games, saves, Steam and settings stay where they are.
🏠 Redesign: a Frutiger Aero icon and splash screen, and a new main menu.
⌨️ On-screen keyboard: open it during a game. It's off by default; turn it on in Settings.
🛠️ Fixes:
- Steam warns you before it starts if your PS5 is too low on memory, and tells you how to fix it.
- Steam no longer closes during big downloads.
- Error messages from games now appear on screen, and you can answer them with ✕.
- Games that check your graphics card now see the PS5's real GPU.
- More DirectX 12 games start.
- GameMaker games start (Undertale, Deltarune, ect.)
- Mods that change a game's files no longer break its graphics.
- The payload checklist lets you continue anyway: hold △ for 5 seconds.
- The payload memory warning only shows when payloads really use too much.
- Logs keep their last minutes, so crash reports show what happened.
- A ton more games start than in Alpha 6.
Still an alpha: please send your logs when something doesn't work:

MihawkOS is finally here
Mihawk has announced the release of MihawkOS, formerly known as PP/PS5 Proton, on GitHub and It’s impressive how much Mihawk has contributed to the PS5 homebrew community in just one month. From PS5_Vulkan and Mesa to RetroArch and his own FrameGen model, the progress has been incredible.
According to him, MihawkOS is now publicly available after many sleepless nights of development. However, the project is still experimental, and the developer warns that kernel panics may occur and users are strongly advised to back up their data before testing it.
It’s amazing to see how quickly the PS5 homebrew scene is evolving, and huge appreciation goes to Mihawk and all the other developers who continue pushing the boundaries of what’s possible on jailbroken PS5 consoles. What an exciting time to be part of this community
