Open Scrantic: Johnny Castaway screensaver, reimplemented in Rust, for modern computers Hi Reddit! I reverse-engineered the 1992 Sierra Johnny Castaway screensaver with AI assistance. It works on Windows, macOS, and Linux, either as a standalone program or as a regular Windows screensaver. You'll need the original game files. I'm happy to take contributions or just reminisce about it. You can find the code here: glauberlima/open-scrantic. I'm also happy to answer any questions that you might have. Why did I do this? I grew up with the Johnny Castaway screensaver. It was a part of my childhood, and of course, it's a lot of fun bringing it back to modern computers! Thank you!

Open Scrantic: Johnny Castaway (1992 Windows 3.1 screensaver) reimplemented in Rust, using REA Hi reddit! I grew up with the Johnny Castaway screensaver. It was a part of my childhood and I always wished it could still run on modern computers. So I decided to rebuild it from scratch using Rust. I took the 16-bit executable and reverse engineered it using REA, a reverse-engineering toolkit. I wrote the code with help from Claude Code. I directed the whole process. I also reviewed every part of the work. All of this is explained in the README. The project runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. You’ll need your copy of the original files because I can't distribute them. You can find the source (MIT license) here: glauberlima/open-scrantic
