Rustify: the whole of Skyrim turned into Minecraft blocks, while you still play Skyrim (alpha, built on SkyCraft)
Hey everyone,
I just released the first alpha of **Rustify**, a mod that turns all of Skyrim into Minecraft blocks while you keep playing Skyrim. Quests, NPCs, dragons, shouts, all still there, but the world around you is made of blocks.
**Video:** youtu.be
**Nexus:** nexusmods.com
**What it does**
* Converts the whole Tamriel worldspace: terrain, mountains, rocks, trees, forts, ruins, bridges
* Whiterun, Solitude, Windhelm and Riften are built from their actual buildings
* Distant view in Minecraft colours all the way to the horizon
* It's a real Minecraft world, so you can dig through it and build in it
* NPCs walk on the block ground
* Interiors stay vanilla
**Built on SkyCraft**
Rustify sits on top of [SkyCraft](chasmlol/SkyCraft) by chasmlol, which already lets you play Skyrim with Minecraft's physics, inventory and blocks. SkyCraft does the heavy lifting on the Minecraft side, Rustify gives it Skyrim's world: it converts the map and the buildings into a Minecraft world that lines up with Skyrim block for block. Go show them some love too.
**How the install works**
Nothing from Skyrim or Minecraft is in the download. Rustify is a small tool that builds everything on your own PC from your own game files:
1. Install SkyCraft, start Skyrim with it once and load into the game so it creates its Minecraft world
2. Unpack Rustify to a normal folder like C:\Rustify (don't install it with your mod manager, it's a tool)
3. Double-click Rustify.bat, check the folders it found, pick "Build everything"
4. Wait about an hour. With MO2 it sets itself up as its own mod and turns its plugins on
Vortex or manual setups work too, the tool then writes into your Data folder and plugins.txt.
**Requirements**
Skyrim SE/AE (the version SkyCraft supports), SKSE64, Address Library, SkyCraft and a Minecraft Java account. Windows 10/11, 16 GB RAM recommended, about 6 GB free disk space.
**Known issues (it's an alpha)**
* Some buildings look rough or lose small details, very detailed models don't survive the block conversion well
* Markarth stays vanilla for now
* Conflicts with DynDOLOD / xLODGen output (the distant view)
* On the very first start the world gets prepared in the background for a few minutes. Flying fast can stutter until the chat says it's done
* Some spots with lots of slabs and fences can drop FPS, I'm working on it
If something breaks, please post in the bug tracker on Nexus and attach the files from the "logs" folder next to Rustify.bat.
Tell me which places look the worst, that's what I'll fix next.

yep this stuff is super interesting. we're seeing rust rewrites of games like modern warfare 2 [1][2], and mashups with cod, minecraft, and skate 3 [3][4][5]. there is a large active discord community of gamers and modders sharing tips and guides on how to do this. none of them are really programmers, they're just sharing prompts and codex/claude code does the rest. i don't think llm's are capable of designing new games but they're wizards at reverse-engineering and mashing up existing games, which kind of makes sense for a computer.

Dying Craft? Minelight? Don't really know what to call it. Anyone interested in this?
I love these two games like crazy and have dedicated countless hours to them over the past years. I saw a video about Skycraft (Skyrim + Minecraft "passthrough" mod chasmlol/SkyCraft) and tried it and it was awesome so I decided to get me a claude sub and vibe code this thing based on skycraft and the recently released universal-modder plugins and skills. Opus 5.5 is doing the work (eats tokens like crazy) on windows. So I'll be testing and adding to it and see what comes out of it.

seeing what has been happening in the game modding communitiy, with people reverse engineering full rust rewrites of games like modern warfare 2 [1][2], or reverse engineering mashups with cod, minecraft, and skate 3 [3][4][5], the only defence against reverse-engineering literally all software will be to serve it from the cloud, and even that will not be enough. these people aren't even programmers, claude code just downloads ghidra and builds this stuff.
the future of software is oss. unless governments lock down access to these tools to prevent this kind of reverse engineering. which is a horrible future to envision.
