claude-convey: a Claude Code plugin that turns YAML templates into forms for filling prompts Link ynqa/claude-convey Description I built claude-convey, a plugin that opens YAML-defined inputs as a form inside Claude Code and uses the values you pick to fill in a prompt. v0.1.0 is out. Prompts to an agent often include values like a branch name, commit hash, or cluster name. They need to be exact, and they're values you could pick from a list. This tool reduces the work of looking them up and typing them each time. It's inspired by convey. The GIF shows picking a branch and commit and typing a review request. Run /convey examples to open the form, then pick from candidates fetched from Git. Check the preview and press Fill to put the completed prompt in Claude Code's input box. You can edit it there before sending. Features: - Define input fields and a Mustache prompt template in YAML. - Get choices from a fixed list or the output of commands such as git and kubectl. - Fetch choices based on earlier selections, such as branch → commit. - Use text fields and required inputs while checking a preview. - Use the included /convey:template skill to write a template from a description of what you need. Install with: claude plugin marketplace add ynqa/claude-convey claude plugin install convey@claude-convey Restart the session, put a template in your project's .claude/convey/, and run /convey. The repo includes template examples. I'd like to hear about prompts you use repeatedly, or values that would be useful to pick from command output.

I made a form that fills prompt variables from actual command output Link ynqa/claude-convey Description Reusable prompts have instructions you want to keep and target values that change each time. I built claude-convey, a Claude Code plugin that lets you pick those values from actual candidates. v0.1.0 is out. For a request like "review this commit," the branch and commit hash need to be exact. With claude-convey, the output of git branch can supply the branch choices, and the selected branch's git log can supply the commit choices. You type what you want checked this time. The input fields and the prompt to fill are defined in the same YAML file. For example: name: git-commit-review inputs: branch: type: select candidates: command: program: git args: [branch, --format=%(refname:short)] commit: type: select allow_empty: false depends_on: [branch] candidates: command: program: git args: [log, --format=%h %s, -n, "20", "{{ inputs.branch }}"] request: type: textarea output: template: | # Commit review - Branch: {{ inputs.branch }} - Commit: {{ inputs.commit }} {{ inputs.request }} Save this as .claude/convey/git-commit-review.yaml and open the form with /convey. The depends_on field defines the input dependency: picking a different branch clears the selected commit and fetches the candidates again. The GIF shows picking values, typing the request, and checking the preview. Pressing Fill puts the prompt, with its values filled in using Mustache, into Claude Code's input box. You can review and edit it before sending. Install with these two commands, then restart the session: claude plugin marketplace add ynqa/claude-convey claude plugin install convey@claude-convey How do you decide which parts of a reusable prompt should be choices and which should be text you write each time?

claude-convey includes a skill that turns a description of your workflow into a form template Link ynqa/claude-convey Description I built claude-convey, a plugin that lets you pick values in a form inside Claude Code to fill in a reusable prompt. v0.1.0 is out. Here I'd like to share the included template skill, which writes templates for those forms. For example, you can ask: /convey:template pick a branch and commit, and ask for a review of that commit The skill asks which values you want to pick each time and where the choices should come from. It then tries the commands that produce those choices and writes YAML to .claude/convey/. For example, branch can use git branch, commit can use the selected branch's git log, and the request itself can be a text field. Open the resulting template with /convey, and you can use the form to fill in the same kind of request each time. The GIF shows using a completed form: pick a branch and commit, type the request, check the preview, and press Fill to put it in the input box. The GIF doesn't show the template-writing skill running. You can also edit templates by hand. Choices can depend on earlier selections, so you can build inputs like branch → commit, or kubectl context → namespace → Pod. Install with: claude plugin marketplace add ynqa/claude-convey claude plugin install convey@claude-convey Restart the session to load the plugin and skill. The skill source and template examples are in the repo. Of the things your skills ask you each time, which would you prefer to pick yourself in a form?

For my first Claude Code plugin, I built a form with Claude Code that fills prompts with branches and commits you pick Link ynqa/claude-convey Description I built claude-convey, a plugin that lets you pick branch names and commit hashes from choices in a form and puts them into your Claude Code prompt. v0.1.0 is out. This was my first Claude Code extension, so besides what it does, I'll go over how I built it and what I noticed along the way. What it does When asking for a commit review, you look up the target, copy it, and paste it into your usual request. The value has to be exact, yet it's really one you could pick from a list. So I made a form for picking it. The GIF opens the form with /convey examples and goes through these steps: 1. Pick a branch from the output of git branch. 2. Pick a commit from that branch's git log. 3. Type what you want checked and review the completed prompt in the preview tab. 4. Press Fill to put it in Claude Code's input box. It isn't sent, so you can edit it before sending. The form fields and the prompt are defined in YAML files in .claude/convey/. Choices can be a fixed list or a command's output, and depends_on fetches choices based on earlier selections. Picking a different branch clears the selected commit and fetches the candidates again. How I built it with Claude Code I didn't know which TUI components were available or how to show a form, so I started by having Claude look into the available TUI components and how to display the form as a side panel in Claude Code. Rather than building everything at once, I added features in steps, keeping it working at each one: 1. Register /convey and have it just reply with a greeting 2. Open a panel from /convey and draw it 3. Put a prompt into the input box from a hard-coded form 4. Render the template with Mustache and check required inputs 5. Load templates from YAML files 6. Get choices from local commands 7. Support depends_on and command arguments built with Mustache I checked that each step worked before moving on, which made it easier to narrow down the cause when something broke. After that I added smaller pieces: a preview tab, marks for filled (✓) and empty (○) inputs, and a list of required inputs still empty next to Fill. Template parsing, rendering and dependency handling are kept apart from the UI, with tests that run under claude plugin test. The demo GIF is recorded from a vhs tape, so I can re-record it when the UI changes. So you don't have to write templates by hand, the plugin also includes a /convey:template skill that writes the YAML from a description of what you need. The skill tries the commands that produce the choices before writing, and it's told what to do when a command can't run. Things I noticed - Some surfaces can't draw text fields or selects. There, instead of failing, the panel says in one line that it can't show the form. - The form and the preview are separate panels, so closing the form needed to close the preview too. The form still closes even if closing the preview fails. - When a command for choices fails, its error is folded to one line that you can open and close with ▸ / ▾. Install claude plugin marketplace add ynqa/claude-convey claude plugin install convey@claude-convey Restart the session before using it. The README has template examples and how to write your own. It's inspired by convey. I'd like to hear how you break up the steps when building Claude Code extensions, or which values you keep looking up and typing into your prompts.

I made a form for filling in reusable prompts in Claude Code Link ynqa/claude-convey Description I built claude-convey, a Claude Code plugin for filling reusable prompts by picking values in a form. v0.1.0 is out. You'll need a Claude Code environment to use it. For a commit review, for example, the request stays much the same while the branch and commit change each time. With claude-convey, you can pick them from the output of Git commands and type what you want checked this time. The GIF shows this inside Claude Code: run /convey examples, pick a branch and commit, type the request, and check the preview. Pressing Fill puts the completed prompt in the input box. You can then review or edit it before sending it yourself. The form fields and prompt are defined in a YAML template. Choices can come from a fixed list or a command's output, so you can adapt them to each repository. The included /convey:template skill can also write a template from a description of what you need. Examples include picking a branch and commit for a review, or picking a kubectl context, namespace, and Pod in sequence for an investigation. This was my first time building a Claude Code extension, so I used Claude from the start to explore the available TUI components. I also used it to work out how to display the form as a side panel in Claude Code and to test that behavior. Install with: claude plugin marketplace add ynqa/claude-convey claude plugin install convey@claude-convey Restart the session after installing, put a template in your project's .claude/convey/, and run /convey. There are examples in the repo. I'd like to hear how you manage recurring prompts, or where this kind of input form would be useful.
