Even a clone of another game can be an outlet for creativity if you're willing to pick the most absurd tools for building it. Examples: Doom in Excel, and Tetris played in Sed (a "find-and-replace" command for text filtering). It's named Sedtris and I've no idea what inspired its author to make it.
