XPoint Releases v2.3.0–v2.5.0: Font Downloader + IDLE Power-Off Hello, Following up on my FreeType post. TLDR: The reader now downloads fonts by itself — e-ink-tuned TTFs you can preview first, right from the settings. No SD card. v2.5.0 Font downloader Since the FreeType swap, custom fonts look great — if you could get them on the device cleanly. Now there's a downloader in Settings. It serves a curated set based on nicoverbruggen/ebook-fonts (the same fonts Kobo/Boox readers swap in), with a live tester so you can check size and line height before downloading. They hit the SD card as real TTFs, so they render through FreeType with full hinting, just like the custom ones. Caveat: fonts come over WiFi 4, so a download takes a minute or two. One-time cost, but don't queue one while rushing for the train. The other three releases, quick 1. Plugins, from the SD card. Drop a plugin in, it shows up; take it out, it's gone. No rebuild, no reflash. Plugins can even choose their own download directory. 2. The reader actually powers down when idle. The touch controller goes to sleep and the screen's power rail shuts off after you stop interacting, waking on the next input without you noticing. This one took real bench time to get right, because a battery feature that makes the reader feel dead is worse than no feature. 3. Your place survives a font change. Changing fonts mid-book used to shuffle your position; it doesn't anymore. 4. Short chapters load before you get there. Prefetching now grabs them early, and the "Indexing" popup clears as soon as the chapter is readable instead of overstaying its welcome. 5. Configurable paragraph indentation. The book no longer decides how far the first line is indented; you do. 6. Following a link keeps your place. Come back from a footnote or chapter reference and you land on the page you were reading, not the top of the chapter. 7. Faster SD reads. The filesystem bookkeeping now has its own cache instead of fighting your book data for the same one. Fewer stutters on big libraries. 8. Big books behave. Omnibus editions with thousands of chapters no longer stall the index build, and reopening books no longer slowly squeezes the memory out of the device. 9. Honest battery readings on the X3. USB power is no longer mistaken for battery drain, and the fuel gauge gets the real capacity so the percentage means something. 10. Two new boards. The eego A4 and Metalio E-Ink 4 are now supported, with all of the above. Every release is Ed25519-signed; the device rejects anything tampered or corrupt before it installs.
