  4. I also had Claude open a PR with the fix, that mirrors the same MR to GNOME's copy on GitLab:

  5. Claude ended up finding a null pointer dereference in `libcvc`, and was able to confirm that GNOME's `libgnome-volume-control` has the same bug.

  6. [OC] I built an All-in-One Hardware + Bluetooth Battery Monitor Desklet for Cinnamon (iOS / macOS Sonoma style) Hey everyone! I wanted a single, clean desktop widget on Cinnamon that could show both my **system hardware metrics** (CPU, RAM, GPU, Fan RPM, Disk, Network) and **all my connected Bluetooth device batteries** in the style of the iOS / macOS Sonoma Batteries & Activity widgets — so I built **iOS Hardware & Battery Monitor** (`ios-hardware-monitor@dalvan`). ### ✨ Features * **100% Native & Asynchronous (Zero extra dependencies):** Drawn entirely with vector graphics (`Cairo` + `PangoCairo`) and non-blocking async `Gio` calls so it never stutters the Cinnamon main loop. * **Hardware Circular Gauges:** * **CPU:** Usage `%` + package temperature (`k10temp`, `coretemp`, `zenpower`, `acpitz`). * **RAM:** Usage `%` and `GB` used/total. * **GPU (NVIDIA / AMD / Intel):** Usage `%`, temperature, and VRAM via native Linux DRM `sysfs` (`gpu_busy_percent`) or async `nvidia-smi`. * **Cooler / Fan RPM:** Auto-detects `fan*_input` sensors in `/sys/class/hwmon`. * **Storage & Live Network Cards:** * **Disk:** Progress bar with `%` used and free `GB`. * **Network:** Live Download (`↓`) and Upload (`↑`) speed on the active interface. * **iOS-Style Batteries & Bluetooth Monitor:** * Combines **UPower (`UPowerGlib`)** and **BlueZ D-Bus (`org.bluez.Battery1`)** to display your laptop battery alongside connected Bluetooth headphones, speakers, mice, keyboards, and controllers. * Custom vector icons for each device type + lightning bolt charging badge and traffic-light battery colors (Green / Yellow ≤ 25% / Red ≤ 15%). * **Highly Customizable:** * Switch between **Dark Glass (macOS Dark)**, **Light Frosted (iOS Light)**, or **Auto** theme. * Customize glass opacity, corner radius, widget scale (`0.75x` – `1.6x`), grid columns, module visibility, and header title (Hardware Model, Distro name, Hostname, Username, or Custom text). --- ### 🚀 How to Install I've already submitted it to the official **Cinnamon Spices** repository ([PR #1933](cinnamon-spices-desklets#1933)), and you can also install it right now from GitHub in one command: ```bash git clone dalvan03/ios-hardware-monitor-desklet cd ios-hardware-monitor-desklet ./install.sh``` Then right-click your desktop -> Add Desklets -> enable iOS Hardware & Battery Monitor. - 🔗 GitHub Repository: dalvan03/ios-hardware-monitor-desklet - 🔗 Cinnamon Spices PR: cinnamon-spices-desklets#1933 Feedback, bug reports, and feature ideas from the community are super welcome!

Broke your Linux install with an update? Timeshift lets you roll the whole system back Tool name: Timeshift OS: Linux Licence: Open source What it does: Takes snapshots of your system files on a schedule. If an update or a config change breaks something, you pick a snapshot and restore it. Your personal files in /home are left alone by default. Why I like it: It's like System Restore on Windows, except it actually works. Comes preinstalled on Linux Mint, and most other distros have it in their repos. Official link: linuxmint/timeshift Install on Ubuntu or Debian: sudo apt install timeshift Tip: set it to keep daily and weekly snapshots, and keep them on a separate drive if you can.

PSA for Cinnamon users: If you have more than two monitors, you cannot mirror your display. Title. I ran into the issue myself, and am posting this after finding dozens of posts with people who were having the same issue that went unanswered or unsolved. There are some answered ones if you scroll back far enough, but I'm hoping recency + title catches newer eyes searching an old problem. From Cinnamon 21 on, there is not an option to mirror displays if you have more than exactly 2 monitors. For artists, this includes your drawing tablet - it will be displayed as a monitor on its own. For couch potatoes, this includes your TV - same as tablets above. You will have no options to mirror any monitor the moment you plug in anything that counts as a 3rd (or 4th, 5th, etc) monitor. This is not a bug, it is a design feature in Cinnamon. There is a feature request here on the official github: [FEATURE REQUEST] Display Settings - Mirror Displays #11056. Please go and leave a comment if this bothers you as much as it bothered me. Don't get your hopes up. For a deeper explanation and the only clunky workaround that I've found actually works (that unfortunately, will not work in all use cases), I give tons of props to u/mobulai for their post here on the subreddit from 4 years ago. Hopefully this helps someone out there screaming in frustration.
