This Free Project Removes the Ads From Your Android TV
Your TV shows you an advert before you can even get to Netflix. You don't need a new TV or a streaming stick. One free, open source project from GitHub switches the ads off and gives it a clean new home screen.
In this video we test CleanYourTV v2.3.0 (19 Oct 2026) on Google TV 14 in Android's official emulator. It connects to the TV from your computer over Wi-Fi, backs up every app and setting, puts the ad services and preloaded extras to sleep, and swaps in a small new home screen with just your apps. Nothing is deleted, and one command puts it all back. We also look at the one bug that cost a Sony owner everything, and who should try it. The project's own scripts do it in four commands: tv.py --probe, disable.sh, build-and-install.sh, and restore.sh to undo.
Project: Gathin23/cleanyourtv
What you need:
- An Android TV or Google TV (Samsung and LG run their own systems, so they're out)
- A computer on the same Wi-Fi as the TV
- USB debugging switched on in the TV's developer options
- Claude Code or a similar coding assistant, or the project's own scripts

Back up first, and only try this on a TV you own. It removes the ads on the home screen, not the ads inside apps like YouTube. Settings and app names differ between makers. Tested on v2.3.0; the project moves fast, so check its README for what has changed.
