I've already been improving Lobster's speed a lot in recent times: github.com/aardappel/lobster/blob/master/tests/co…
Self-hosting would be cool too, but for both Lobster and Goose I've tried to keep it simple for people to build the language in any environment, which is why its still all in C++.
I don't use any "skills". From what I can see, the #1 way an AI produces "good code" is to simply work in the context of existing good code. I don't need to hold it by a style guide, it seems to infer that from context just fine. At least Fable does, other models less so.
@norpadon It doesn't do "generic" errors catchable from anywhere, so a function that opens a file typically will have a (second) return value indicating the problem. If you must, you can implement generic exception handling on top of return..from: github.com/aardappel/lobster/blob/master/modules/…

@morew4rd @jakubtomsu_ @z0rbn Yes, depending on the project I will prefer to use this, to exercise the language.
That said, Lobster is really fast too nowadays (github.com/aardappel/lobster/blob/master/tests/co…) and it's a much higher level language, so for something that is not super speed sensitive, still the better language.

@dcolascione Yes these are simplified/limited exceptions in a way. You can emulate the full fat exception mechanism with them, I've done that in one of my other languages: github.com/aardappel/lobster/blob/master/modules/…
