Re:TUI V.5.1 (Build 701)
Re:TUI V.5.1 turns typed text into ASCII art and animates any ASCII art on Home, adds a search across every setting, and makes the calculator work like a pocket calculator.
ASCII art
- Type text as ASCII art: Settings → Personalization → ASCII Settings → Type text as ASCII. Pick from five fonts (small, standard, slant, mini, shadow) with a live preview. Saving keeps your previous art as ascii.txt.bak.
- Effects: print, decrypt, slide, wipe, rain, waves, beams, burn, middleout, colorshift and glitch animate the art each time Home appears, then leave it still. They work on typed, imported and coloured art, and follow your theme's colours.
- Set the speed (slow, normal, fast), loop an effect with a rest in between, or tap the art to replay it. Looping pauses when Home is idle or hidden.
Settings
- Search every setting: a search box in the Settings hub finds any setting by name or description and opens it on its page. settings clock format opens Settings with that search.
- Settings that sat in the wrong section moved next to the ones they belong with; for example, the alias syntax settings now sit together under Commands.
Calculator
- On the number pad, = now gives the result, C clears what you typed and AC starts over. Hold ⌫ to clear the input.
- Results group their digits: 1,400,000 by default, or 14,00,000 in lakhs and crores (Digit grouping in the calculator's ? menu). Choose None for the old look.
Also new
- App drawer: REC, NEW and TOP tabs under the groups order the drawer by recently opened, newest installed or most used.
- Astro Chart: a monochrome option in the World list shows a black sky with white stars, and the planet, station and ships dithered to black and white.
The ASCII effects are a Kotlin port of TerminalTextEffects (MIT), and the fonts come from FIGlet; both are credited in the app's notices.

ChrisBuilds/terminaltexteffects All of the common terminals run TTE surprisingly well. That's 60fps, pushing many megabytes per second of text and control sequences.
